At the Buckingham Community Centre on Saturday, November 25, from 10 in the morning to 2 in the afternoon, there will be a public consultation event regarding the future of Buckingham.
The Buckingham Future Scenarios Consultation with Buckingham Residents will get under way after this event. Based on months of research into Buckingham and how it might develop over the next twenty years, the future scenarios are not a suggested Neighbourhood Plan or policy; rather, they are beginning points for discussion about Buckingham’s probable future.
This discussion is based on the future scenarios. The consultation event provides an open forum in which participants can voice their opinions regarding four distinct case studies.
The Mayor of Buckingham, Cllr. Anja Schaefer, stated that “The scenarios consultation is part of a process that involves you, the people of Buckingham, at the early stages of the development of the new neighbourhood plan. I really hope that a good number of you will be able to make it to the launch party so that you can find out more about it”.
Chairman of the Planning Committee Cllr Mark Cole JP stated that “The Buckingham Neighbourhood Plan is the town’s planning vision, in which residents decide what kind of development they want and where. The 2015 BNP is currently undergoing revision, and a working group of the Town Council has spent the previous eight months investigating potential areas for future development in light of the growing population of the town. Before a final version is developed that will carry that vision through to 2040, we would want to encourage you to comment on these in a series of public events that will take place over the next few weeks.”
The Neighbourhood Development Plan (also known as the BNDP) for Buckingham is now 8 years old. Since the beginning of the year, members of the Town Council as well as inhabitants of the surrounding area have been gathering information and working diligently to formulate a strategy for the future.
The topics of design and heritage, environmental issues, business and economic development, transportation, arts, leisure, and cultural goals, and strategic objectives were discussed by six focus groups.
Research on potential environmental and development policies was carried out by two task groups.
