The Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service has outlined how it is improving following a damning report by inspectors.
The service’s efforts at protecting the public were rated ‘Inadequate’ by His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services (HMICFRS). Published in October last year.
This week the service released an update, giving details of how it has set up what they called an Improvement Board, chaired by new chief fire officer Louise Harrison.
Members, they say, meet on a regular basis and fire officers have also held meetings with the National Fire Chiefs Council, regional fire chiefs and other bodies.
Despite these efforts to improve their inadequate rating, the report found the service needed improvement in other areas. This includes its ability to prevent fire and risks before they happen, its response to fires and emergencies, and how it uses its resources.
The service is still looking to recruit on-call firefighters, amid recruitment struggles. They are hosting a virtual event on February 15 in an effort to answer any queries potential new volunteers may have.
