Glorious food attracts thousands to Buckingham food fair and a local resident becomes the town’s new crier
The tastiest event of the year was back again in Buckingham. Organized by the council, the town hosted its 9th annual food fair on Saturday March 11. The event was held in the community center from 10am to 3.
Over 1500 people inside the building visited the food stalls and about 100 were at the food trucks that surrounded the center.
The 500th and 1000th people through the doors also received prizes in the form of a Buckingham Mug and a voucher for Prego, the winner of last year’s Buckingham’s Favorite Dish Competition.
Visitors got to try and taste the best food and drinks local traders had to offer. Each trader had a chance to showcase their products and outstanding customer service. Many traders sold out of stock at the end of the day.
Lead Councillors of the event, Cllr. Fran Davies said: “I am really pleased to see so many people, fantastic stalls old and new and the lovely WI at the 2023 Buckingham Town Council Food Fair. Another hugely successful event, thanks must go to the Town Council staff for pulling it all together.”
Most of the food traders came from within a 30-mile radius of the town but the event also celebrated all the restaurants and venues in Buckingham.
Hundreds of updated Foodie Buckingham maps, highlighting all the different and fabulous food venues in the parish of the town, were given out at the event. Visitors also had the chance to vote on their favorite dish from a Buckingham eatery at the ‘Buckingham’s Favorite Dish’ stall. The winners of the competition will be announced in due course by the council.
At noon, while the fair was still going strong, trials for Buckingham’s new Town Crier began at the flagpole outside the town’s community center.
Following the auditions for the honorable post, local resident, Patrick Shaw was declared the towns new crier by the mayor.
