Buckingham Athletic FC and Buckingham United FC have merged to form a single football club within Buckingham.
Buckingham FC was created following a series of promising talks between the clubs. Initial talks displayed a shared aspiration for both clubs and likemindedness.
The aim of the merger is to pool resources of the clubs and provide the town with a sustainable non-league football club to continue the proud and rich history of football within Buckingham.
Buckingham FC’s twitter stated: “this is not an end to Buckingham Athletic or Buckingham United, this is very much a continuation in the story of these clubs and football within the town, the history of which will not be forgotten.”
Following the disappointing season for Buckingham Athletic, this merger provides a new opportunity for the fans, players and volunteers to push themselves further up the football pyramid, whilst also providing a structured environment to allow football to flourish within the town.
To witness the success of the merger, one needs to look no further and the first pre-season game against MK Dons U18s.
The game took place on Saturday and despite the pouring rain, fans came out in the masses, over 200 fans arrived for the rain-soaked game.
With the weather not up to standard, the football certainly was. MK Dons displayed the talent they have coming through the ranks, and it was an opportunity for Buckingham FC to show the fans the talent they have themselves.
Despite losing 4-0 Buckingham gave a good account of themselves. Goalkeeper, Jamie Adim won Man of the Match after making some fine saves.
A historic day for football in Buckingham marred by the weather.
Monty Pieman, the award winning Buckingham-based pie makers certainly helped keep morale high.
