Renowned Broadway actor and Dreamgirls star, Hinton Battle, has passed away at the age of 67. The accomplished screen and stage performer, best known for his role as The Scarecrow in Broadway’s The Wiz, breathed his last at Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre in Los Angeles. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the family spokesperson has chosen not to disclose the cause of his demise.
Hinton Battle, a three-time Tony Award winner for his outstanding performances in Sophisticated Ladies, The Tap Dance Kid, and Miss Saigon, made his Broadway debut in the original production of The Wiz. His illustrious career extended to the 2007 movie musical Dreamgirls, where he earned an NAACP Image Award. Beginning his Broadway journey at just 15 in The Wiz, Battle, a product of the Jones Haywood School of Ballet in Washington, D.C., and the School of American Ballet in New York City, showcased his versatility on both stage and screen.
In addition to his theatrical accomplishments, Battle left his mark in film and television, featuring in productions like Buffy The Vampire Slayer, These Old Broads, Quantum Leap, Smash, and Touched by an Angel.
