Burundi is one of the last countries in the world to start vaccinating people against Coronavirus.
In the main city , Bujumbura is where the injections are being given on a voluntary basis, There has been no urgency from the government to get their citizens to take the vaccine.
Burundi received 500, 000 doses of the Sinopharm vaccine last week. The Health Minister Thaddée Ndikumana had said that it’s only the elderly and health workers that would be given priority to take the vaccine.
Tedros Ghebreyesus, the World Health Organization director had said that Burundi, Eritrea, and North Korea were the only countries that had not started Covid vaccinations yet in the whole world.
Burundi’s health minister had said back in March that the country “preferred to wait” before using “experimental” vaccines on the people.
It is seen by WHO figures that some 19,550 cases have been confirmed in the East African nation with 14 deaths, although some Burudians are sceptical of the numbers given so one is not too sure.
