Gucci, the Italian luxury brand that is synonymous with sexy, effortless style has debuted a new collaboration today with another iconic heritage brand, Adidas, for Autumn 2022.
Within a hall of illusionistic mirrors at the Gucci Hub in Milan, Creative Director Alessandro Michele presented his latest collection, Exquisite Gucci. In his notes on the show, he wrote, “I use the metaphor of the magical mirror to approach the phantasmagorical power of fashion. A sacred power that radiates from the surface of the fabrics. And there I work, on this tactile surface, through cross references, alterations, loopholes and grafts. Juxtaposing worlds and meanings. Altering the stability of perception. Manipulating and magnifying the existing. Through these interventions, I celebrate the clothes as real optical labs: magical machines that can give birth to fairy tales of metamorphosis and re-enchantment.” This was captioned under the official YouTube video for the show, shown below.
It was an athletic departure from Michele’s tailored union with Balenciaga last season, which explored Gucci’s equestrian heritage. The sportswear giant lent its legendary three stripes and trefoil logo to everything from berets to corsets and peppy suiting, according to Vogue. A scaled-up, Adidas-stamped version of Gucci’s Diana tote – the brand’s homage to Diana, Princess of Wales – hit the runway, while a whimsical prairie dress and logoed bridal look subverted the notion of what sports luxe looks like next season. Adidas says that this forthcoming project “combines the heritage and the creative codes of both brands”, according to Complex magazine.
The show was attended by fashion stalwarts Anna Della Russo, Carine Roitfeld as well as fashion’s current ‘it’ couple, pregnant mogul, Rihanna and boyfriend ASAP Rocky, who modelled a pair of gloves that were featured in the collection. Very “Phresh Out the Runway”.
Penned as ‘Guccididas’ by Alice Cary, there is sure to be a long waiting list for fashion enthusiasts to get their hands on the looks.
