More firsts being awarded at university than ever

Imperial College London has handed out first class degrees to more than half of its graduates, raising concerns about grade inflation across the country, according to the Independent.

Data from the Higher Education Statistics Agency showed virtually all UK universities and colleges have seen an increase in firsts in the last five years.

Eleven universities that are part of the Russell Group –  considered among the UK’s leading institutions – awarded first-class honours to approximately 33% of degree students, analysis showed.
