A team of five Padbury residents have launched a bid to buy their local pub, the Four & 20, according to Buckinghamshire Live.
The team, known formally as the Padbury Community Hub, are looking to convert the pub into a ‘community pub,’ which would add to the more than 130 community pubs already across the country.
The group began plans in July of last year after finding out that the current owner had submitted an application to turn the pub into a residential property and have recieved the support of Buckingham MP Greg Smith since.
Neil Gibbard, a member of the group, has claimed that the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdowns have galvanised the team in its efforts to take-over the property.
Mr Gibbard said: “We just wanted somewhere to go and natter.
“It was amazing during the lockdown how we all became to know each other again like we did back in the 60s and 70s when I was younger.”
He added: “It’ll be great to have something to call our own to shape as people want.”
MP Greg Smith said: “We have lost an alarming number of many village pubs so it’s fantastic that a number of Padbury residents have a wonderful plan to buy the Four and Twenty pub.
“It would be great if they could re-open it as a community pub and hub for the village. I fully support the village in this endeavour and hope they are successful with this great project.”
