A section of a Buckinghamshire road will be shut this week to accommodate preparatory work for the controversial HS2 rail project, according to The Buckingham Advertiser.
A half-a-mile stretch of Steeple Claydon Road, around six miles away from Buckingham, will be closed for a week from Monday November 1, with a diversion to be put in place.
The portion of road in between Twyford and Steeple Claydon will be shut for 24 hours a day to construct as crossing point as part of the preparation for HS2’s internal haul and access roads.
Authorities say that concrete will be used to create a strengthened surface so that the road is not damaged whilst the work is carried out.
It has been warned that if the work is not completed within the week, the road could be closed for a second week and not reopen until Monday November 15.
A road closure notice from HS2 said: “As part of our continued preparatory works for our internal haul and access roads we will close a section of Steeple Claydon Road for approximately one week.
“In order to avoid using local roads, during the main construction works, we will be using the internal haul and access roads for our construction traffic.
“As the project progresses, it is also necessary to remove vegetation to enable future works to continue and to allow access to areas of the site.
“We will create a strengthened surface using concrete to ensure that we protect the road and any utilities underneath it for the duration of our works.
“Once the crossing point is created, Steeple Claydon Road will then be open as normal, with gates in place to keep local traffic separated from construction traffic.
“All plant crossings, without exception, will be signal controlled.
“As these preparatory works will require large plant and machinery, as well as the setting of concrete, we will need to fully close this section of Steeple Claydon Road.
“This closure will be 24 hours per day, until the work is complete. This is for the safety of road users and our staff.”
