Despite the heatwave continuing across southern Europe, the UK has been cool and wet.
The UK will most likely not see any extreme heat in the next few days or weeks. Weather patterns across the UK over the next 10 days show little change.
This July’s temperatures are a stark contrast to the intense heatwave experienced by the UK in the previous year. In 2022, temperatures exceeded 40c for the first time on record.
Across southern Europe, temperatures are skyrocketing. The Mediterranean saw temperatures as high as 48c in the previous week due to the Cerberus heatwave.
British tourists are not letting the heat ruin their holidays. Britons are flocking to the Mediterranean to sun bath and enjoy the summer despite the intense heat.
However, caution is suggested for those vacationing to the Mediterranean during the heatwave.
High temperatures increase the risk of heatstroke. Heatwaves contributed to more than 60,000 deaths in Europe in 2022 according to a new report.
Heatstroke symptoms include, but are not limited to: exhaustion, dizziness, headache, feeling sick or being sick, excessive sweating, skin becoming pale or clammy, heat rash, and cramping in the arms, legs, and stomach.
According to the NHS, heatstroke can be prevented by drinking cold drinks and wearing light-coloured clothing. The NHS advises to avoid the sun between 11am and 3pm.
Though there is no indication that the heatwave will reach the UK, caution is advised to those going on holiday in the next few weeks.
