The UN is currently making a record appeal of £8.2 billion to fight the coronavirus pandemic. This is the largest fundraising call the UN has ever done.

With the impact left by this pandemic, the UN approximated that 265 million people could face starvation by the end of this year. The coronavirus outbreak impacted the most on the world’s poorest countries and the money raised will be focused mainly on these countries’ development.

Although the UN appeal is a new record, many wealthy countries had to throw away the financial rule book in order to protect their economies, and must now contribute to save poorer countries. If not, the world will face a series of crises.
