The annual event that celebrates the beauty, creativity, and community spirit of Buckingham’s gardens has officially been opened by the town council for 2024 entries.

This year’s contest features four categories: Best Kept Front Garden, Best Hanging Baskets/Containers, Best Wildlife Garden, and Best Community Garden.

A new category for local businesses has also been introduced to encourage commercial spaces to showcase their green thumb and enhance the town’s aesthetic appeal.

Judging will begin on or after July 5, 2024. A panel of Buckingham Town Councillors will assess gardens based on plant variety, design, wildlife attraction, maintenance, sustainable planting, space use, and originality.

Cllr. Robin Stuchbury, Chair of the Town Centre & Events Committee said, “The Events committee are pleased to be offering the Buckingham Bloom competition again this year, and we hope people will take up the opportunity showing the quality of their gardens and businesses to be recognised for the effort they put in.

“Their contribution to improving and showing our town in a good light through their personal efforts in their own gardens and green spaces is commendable. We thank anyone in advance for taking part and being involved in this continuing effort from our office team to make Buckingham special as we all believe it is.”

Entries must be submitted by June 28. The competition is free to enter, and participants can submit their entries online, via email, or through paper forms available at the Tourist Information Centre or Buckingham Library.

Winners will be announced shortly after the judging concludes. Prizes will be awarded to the first and second place winners in each category.

The competition serves as a wonderful opportunity for residents and businesses to demonstrate their gardening talents and contribute to the town’s beauty.
