The UK government has made self-isolation a legal duty for anyone who tests positive for Covid-19. Starting on Monday, refusing to self-isolate will be illegal and will get fined up to £10,000.
This is due to the result of a new study done by the government stating that only 18% of people who showed symptoms of Covid-19 went into self-isolation.
The new law applies to people who have been tested positive or have been told by the NHS Test to self isolate due to close contact with someone who has the virus. Police officers are allowed to check if people are complying with the rules in high-risk groups that are based on local sources.
People on low income wages who cannot work from home and losing income will be eligible to get £500 benefit. To keep track of whether or not you need to self-isolate, download the NHS Test and Trace app.
