The UK currently has more than 10,000 new coronavirus cases for the first time since the start of the mass testing. There were 12,872 new cases and 49 deaths within 28 days of testing positive for coronavirus.
The government stated that there was also a technical issue with the data and some of the cases this week were not recorded in the previous dataset. Based on the weekly testing in the community, the data suggests that infections may be rising more slowly than previous weeks.
There has been a significant rise in coronavirus cases from 4,044 on Monday to 7,143 on Tuesday, however, the next four days remained significantly stable. This brings the total number on Saturday to 480,017. This means that a third of the UK is now under intense restrictions such as illegally meeting people indoors from other households.
The restrictions have tightened in Northumberland, Gateshead, Newcastle, North Tyneside, Sunderland, South Tyneside and County Durham.
