The co-founder of the radical climate change activist group has admitted that she drives a diesel car, according to The Telegraph.
Dr Gail Bradbrook made the confession in a heated interview with presenter Cristo Foufas on TalkRadio on Monday.
The 49-year-old, who founded the protest group in 2018, claimed that she needs the car to take her children to football and rugby matches as there are no appropriate buses near her home on Sundays.
Dr Bradbrook said that she cannot afford an electric car.
Widely considered to be more harmful to the environment than even petrol cars, let alone electric ones, diesel cars are aimed to be out of production by 2050 as the government attempts to reach ‘net zero.’
The revelation follows Extinction Rebellion’s London halt after its members erected a giant pink table in the middle of the city’s West End, bringing traffic to a standstill.
Dr Bradbrook previously faced criticism for flying 11,000 miles to Costa Rica in 2016 for a holiday. Although, she claimed that she flew to the island because of a health issue which could not be treated in the UK.
She said: “I’ve done lots of good things but I also don’t get it all right. I drive a car for example.
“It was claimed to be a really green car at the time when I bought it.
“I can’t get my kids to sports fixtures, they are both into football and rugby, I do lots of liftsharing but I can’t get them there because we don’t have buses that run on a Sunday.
“Some of the things are systemic issues aren’t they? We all do what we can.”
