On Thursday, November 23, 2023, between the hours of 4 and 7 o’clock, residents of Buckingham would assemble in the town centre to sing Christmas songs, turn on the dazzling Christmas lights, and peruse the numerous Christmas stalls that would be set up for the occasion.
The order of event goes as follow:
Market Hill would serve as the primary performance area for the festival, and it is there that Cllr. Anja Schaefer, Mayor of Buckingham, and Town Crier Patrick Laws would kick off the festival.
Following that, Buckingham Stage Coach will play many songs from the Nativity. After then, Cllr Anja Schaefer, Mayor of Buckingham, along with the winners of the Christmas Card contest, turn on the Christmas Lights. The students at the Buckingham school would play songs from the movie “Frozen,” which would keep everyone fascinated.
At the National Trust’s Chantry Chapel, participants could partake in a variety of activities in the markets, such as making their own free miniature Christmas wreaths.
You can meet Gwynhaff the dragon on Market Hill, the Bucks Radio Bear that is roving Market Hill, the Buckingham Table Santa Van that is also on Market Hill, and many more interesting characters.
The Buckingham Christmas Parade, which is organised by the Buckingham Christmas parade Committee and is supported by the Buckingham Town Council, is scheduled to take place after this event on December 16th 10:30 am – 12:30pm
The Parade assembles on Chandos Road, then travels through the middle of the town, and finally makes its way back to Chandos Road. Marching bands, floats, and pedestrian groups will all make their way through the Buckingham Town Centre before making their way back to Chandos Road.
During the time when the parade is taking place, the Town Council has planned for the road to be closed and will enforce the closure. In addition to that, there will be a Bus Detour.
Buckingham have most certainly entered the holiday season.
