Drivers face consistent challenges as parking machines malfunction in various Buckinghamshire locations, disrupting daily convenience for residents and visitors.
Many machines installed two years ago have failed to meet reliability standards, leaving drivers with limited payment options.
Cashless apps like RingGo have become a primary payment method, creating accessibility concerns for those preferring or relying on cash.
Drivers have expressed dissatisfaction, describing the machines as outdated and calling for immediate action to resolve ongoing technical issues.
The council acknowledged the issue, emphasising efforts to improve parking systems and provide enhanced experiences for all residents.
Steven Broadbent, Buckinghamshire Council’s Deputy Leader, said: “Our cash payment machines in car parks have reached the end of their lifespan and are now impractical to repair; therefore we are evolving our parking payment provision.”
In the shorter to medium term this means, transitioning to machines that accept card payments and support a digital platform.
This shift comes from data showing that most people prefer digital payments. For example, since 2020, our county-wide records show that 79% of customers who previously paid with cash now use digital payment methods.”
Residents stress the importance of reliable infrastructure to avoid disruptions and ensure equitable access to parking services.
