The child, who is seventh in line for the throne, was delivered at 5:26am, weighing 7lbs 3oz according to Buckingham Palace.

Prince Harry said they were “absolutely thrilled” and thanked the public for their support. He said Meghan and the baby were doing very well and they are still thinking about names.

He added, “I am incredibly proud of my wife.”

The baby is understood to be around a week overdue, and the Duchess, who is 37, was said to be “comfortable and content” as she waited in her new home at Frogmore Cottage with her husband and mother Doria Ragland by her side.
