Huawei’s 5G network banned in the UK

Mobile providers in the UK are currently being banned from buying Huawei 5G equipment after the end of this year. They must also remove all of Huawei’s 5G kit from their networks by 2027. The company would be kept out of the core of the UK’s 5G network, as well as national intelligence.

The decision made was due to the pressure from the US claiming that the Chinese firm poses a threat to national security. With this decision, Digital Secretary Oliver Dowden said that it was the right decision to ban Huawei from UK telecoms networks and national security, however, it would delay the 5G release by a year.

The 5G technology promises faster internet and larger capacity to support mobile devices, as well as improving the quality of mobile gaming and video streaming. It is available in selected areas of the UK, but covers a thin range.
