The area’s local community radio station has attracted over 100,000 listeners in its first year.
It has now been on air for nearly 18 months and there’s an exciting opportunity for you to become the next Chris Evans.
3Bs radio, covering Buckingham, Bicester and Brackley, are looking for new presenters and volunteers as they make the jump into the digital world.
The founders have secured a license to convert the station from purely online to functioning on DAB and are looking to raise funds to ease the transition.
Co-founder and presenter Keith Lewis said: “it’s been a staggeringly successful start for the station. We have had a great reception from those in our catchment areas and we have a really diverse range of music and other shows.
“We are doing this voluntarily and we really need more help. You don’t need any experience to be a presenter – just the desire to broadcast.”
The station began with just eight presenters but now have more than 30, with shows including football commentary, a Friday night rock show and even a local league football round up, more of which are planned for the upcoming year.
I was invited to watch Robert Steel record his Monday afternoon show with fellow-presenter and rock-afficionado Julian ‘Taff’ Roberts.
The working environment was described as “fantastic” and the pair said: “It’s absolutely brilliant, it’s offering the people of the community an alternative channel… and it’s great fun, which is the most important thing.”
It was immediately clear that both had a passion for radio and music. When asked about whether people should come and give it a go, ‘Taff’ said: “For me, it’s a no-brainer, when you get in the groove (no pun intended) there’s nothing like it. You leave feeling like you’re on air, again, no pun intended”
You can find 3Bs radio online but also at the outside broadcast events they do. Presenter Diane Blamires said: “There’s great camaraderie at the outside broadcast events we’ve done, like Buckingham Bandjam, Bicester’s Front Row Festival and Winslow Farmers’ Market. It’s fun to broadcast live at an event.”
