The city of Qingdao is testing its entire population for coronavirus over a five day period.
Nine million people will be tested because of the recent discovery of a dozen cases that is linked to a hospital for treating covid-19 cases. Qingdao’s Municipal Health Commission posted on Weibo, Chinese social media site, stating that there are six new cases and six asymptomatic cases.
The discovery of new cases came a week after China’s Golden Week holiday due to millions travelling across the country. The Qingdao Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism said that the city received 4.47 million passenger trips during that period.
The government has developed a mass testing strategy for Qingdao even though the new cluster of recent cases were minor. China had tested the entire 11 million people of Wuhan in 10 days during the month of May, and since then the country has brought the outbreak under control.
Daily number of cases have fallen in China and the country appears to have recovered with only 91,305 coronavirus cases and 4,746 deaths.
