Milton Keynes-based Red Bull Racing is reportedly deliberating a major shake-up to its 2025 driver line-up, with speculation mounting about Sergio Pérez’s future. Despite being under contract, Pérez’s position alongside Max Verstappen appears uncertain following Red Bull’s third-place finish behind McLaren and Ferrari in the 2024 Constructors’ Championship.
Pérez, who signed a two-year deal with Red Bull, has hinted at discussions about his future, saying during the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix: “I’ve got a contract for next year, but we’ll be talking in the coming days.” Negotiations between the team and Pérez reportedly hinge on compensation should his contract be terminated.
Red Bull Team Principal Christian Horner has identified Liam Lawson and Yuki Tsunoda as leading contenders to replace Pérez if required. Lawson impressed during his limited F1 appearances, while Tsunoda’s consistent performances have kept him in contention.
The promotion of Isack Hadjar, 2024 Formula 2 runner-up, further signals potential changes, with Hadjar expected to join AlphaTauri. This could allow Lawson or Tsunoda to step into Red Bull’s second seat, marking a return to an all-junior program roster for the first time since 2020.
As negotiations continue, the Milton Keynes team appears in no rush to announce its decision, leaving the F1 world awaiting clarity on the 2025 grid.
