A beloved Thai restaurant in Buckinghamshire, part of the small UK restaurant chain Sukhothai, has clinched the title of the best in the UK at the EuroAsia Awards 2023.
Established by Ban Kaewkraikhot in 2002, Sukhothai has grown from its original Chapel Allerton branch to multiple locations across the UK, including Number 50 on Great Missenden High Street. The restaurant draws its name from Sukhothai, the old capital of Thailand and Ban’s birthplace, situated just over 240 miles north of Bangkok. Over the past two decades, Sukhothai has amassed numerous accolades and titles. On Wednesday night (November 15), the chain added another feather to its cap by being crowned the Best Thai Restaurant in the UK at the annual EuroAsia Awards in London.
A spokesperson for the Great Missenden restaurant, which also offers a takeaway service from its High Street location, shared the news on social media, expressing gratitude: “We are glad to announce that we have been awarded (the title of) Best Thai Restaurant in the UK. It is thanks to everyone who has supported and stayed with us throughout our journey. We are looking forward to making a lot (more) memories with you all.”
Customers flooded the post’s comments with congratulations and praise for the family-run restaurant chain. Nicole Woodroffe wrote: “Absolutely well deserved. Best Thai restaurant for miles – highly recommend!” and Roxanne Rees-Bell added: “Your food is outstanding!”
