The University of Buckingham was incorporated by a grant of the Royal Charter on February 11th, 1983, which allowed the institution to become a fully-fledged university. Before the Royal Charter, licenses were awarded under the University College Buckingham. Alumni were then invited to exchange their licenses for degrees.

Activities are scheduled throughout the year in honour of the anniversary.
