After China enacted the new national new security law in Hong Kong, President Donald Trump signed an order to end preferential economic treatment for the city. This means that the US will be treating Hong Kong the same as mainland China.

Hong Kong has enjoyed its freedom not seen in mainland China, however, the citizens now fear that the new national security law imposed by Beijing will bring the city’s special and autonomous status to an end. This legislation made the most change to the political history of Hong Kong.

President Trump has also signed a bipartisan legislation that will sanction Chinese officials who crack down on rights in Hong Kong.
