Derby County’s Wayne Rooney is self-isolating for 10 days after his friend visited him on Thursday and was tested positive for coronavirus.

Rooney confirmed that he does not have the virus and was tested negative, but will still have to miss Derby’s next three games. Derby County said he must follow UK government and EFL guidelines and self-isolate himself until Thursday, 29th October. He will be unavailable to play in Derby’s Championship fixtures against Huddersfield, Nottingham Forest and Cardiff City.

Rooney tweeted that he was “delighted for myself and family” that he was tested negative but was also “angry and disappointed” at missing the games. So far Derby County won only one of their five championship fixtures this season.
