Shoppers at Tesco Buckingham selected Buckingham Primary School to receive a £1,500 donation, which has funded the building of a new playground.

This was part of Tesco’s Stronger Starts campaign, an £8 million grants programme in partnership with charity Groundwork UK. Shoppers voted between three shortlisted groups in the community which they think deserve the top award.

With this money, the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) at the school, transformed an unused area of the playground into an area with brand-new outdoor play equipment for its key stage two students.

Only recently, Buckingham Primary School had received a separate £1500 donation from Barratt Homes, providing another new play area for the children. These donations and grants have been essential in funding a ‘Playground Equipment Project’ that the school had announced in 2023.

Susan Fish, Chair of the PTA said: “This project means an area that was off limits due to safety reasons can now be used again by the pupils, and in a better way than it’s ever been used before. This will completely change how the outdoor play area is used by the children at the school, providing opportunities for creative play outside of simply playing on the playground.”

Stronger Starts provides grant awards of up to £1,500 to local community projects, with a particular focus on children and young people to provide educational programmes, sports equipment, nutritious food, and healthy activities.
